Overview
Who are we? Blade Ecology Ltd are part of Blade (which incorporates both Arboriculturists and Landscape design consultancy). We are an in-house, all-purpose consultancy service who primarily assist land and property developers with the requirements to submit planning applications. The ecology team are required to undertake a variety of surveys to comply with legal specifications. Our in-house experienced ecologists specialise in appraisals and assessments, protected species surveys, and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
What you will be doing? During the summer months, the requirement to undertake surveys and field work can become exceptionally busy, and we would welcome applicants to assist in some of this work. It would be an exciting and useful opportunity to gain some experience for anyone who is undertaking a relevant qualification or has a special interest in the environment, field work and ecology. You will be accompanying a fully trained and licensed surveyor in either setting or collecting equipment on site or generally assisting in the survey work. You will not be expected to undertake any work alone.
What are the hours? Due to the hours often being unsociable, we would ask that you are reliable and committed if you agree to work. The hours are not prescriptive, but you may be asked to assist in a dawn or dusk survey. There may also be some weekend work. We would aim to distribute the surveys so as not to expect you to do more than a week at a time where possible.
What is the pay? We can offer £12.21 per hour. You will be required to submit an invoice at the end of the month with any work you have carried out. (We are only able to pay for those who can evidence a right to work in the UK). You would also be able to claim expenses for petrol and travel time.
What we can offer: This is a fabulous opportunity to gain some hands-on experience in many of the required statutory surveys that are incorporated into planning legislation. It may also provide opportunities to broaden your knowledge in specific protected animals, and the habitat they reside in. You will also get a chance to shadow those fully licenced ecologists on site.
