Position: Full time/Temporary (7 month min. contract)
The opportunity
GE Consulting are looking for a number of Graduate Ecologists to join our teams in Bristol and Cornwall (Liskeard area) for the 2025 survey season. These will be seasonal contracts (Starting on the 23rd of March until the end of October) with the possibility for an extension if workloads require and a very real chance of the role becoming permanent (a rolling average of 70% of previous seasonal ecologists have been offered permanent roles at the end of their contract).
This is an opportunity for up-and-coming ecologists to learn a lot of new skills by having the chance to contribute to a wide range of surveys, reporting, QGIS mapping, data analysis and many other consultancy tasks, all with a lot of training and mentoring by a friendly team of experienced ecologists.
The individuals
The individuals we are seeking will either be working in the ecological consultancy sector or have the qualifications ready to start such a career. We are seeking bright and enthusiastic individuals who are happy to roll up their sleeves and join in with any task that is presented to them. The role will mostly be focused on field surveys with a heavy emphasis on bat surveys (so lots of weekday evenings out surveying) but should also include the chance to surveys for GCN, dormice, reptiles, otter, badger, birds if you have the skills and of course we will look to help develop your botanical skills.
Essential skills and experience
- A relevant degree to move into the role of a Consultant Ecologist
- Committed and reliable with strong time management
- A passion of the natural world and a desire to build a career in this sector
- High attention to detail
- Able to work alone or be a team player
- Happy to work evenings and unsociable hours
- Full driving license & car
- Be based or relocate to within 45mins of the advertised locations
Desirable skills and experience
- A member of CIEEM
- QGIS mapping skills
- Experience of conducting ecology surveys
- A protected species survey licence
- Interest and knowledge in plant identification

Training
We offer all Assistant Ecologists the opportunity to join the GE Consultant Pathway which is a comprehensive training programme that takes a graduate from day one in the job through to being a fully fledged competent Consultant Ecologist. The programme covers everything from survey techniques to reporting, data analysis, BNG assessments, joining client meetings and many other things you’ll need to have a successful career in ecology.
