Surveying for Protected Species
Our ‘Survey Techniques for Protected Species’ self-study course gives an introduction into a range of species ecology, survey techniques and legislation, relevant to both conservation and consultancy. Species include badgers, bats, dormice, otters, reptiles, great crested newts and water voles.
Course Description:
This course comprises 4 videos:
1. Wildlife legislation and Protected Species – in this video you will learn about protected species in general, legislation, and focuses on the ecology and surveying of badgers, great crested newts and water voles. Playing time: 1hr 6 mins.
2. Surveying for Protected Species – Dormice and Otters – in this video you will learn about the ecology and surveying of dormice and otters. Playing time: 1hr 17 mins
3. Surveying for Protected Species – Reptiles and Bats. In this video you will learn about the ecology and surveying for reptiles and bats. Playing time: 1hr 17 mins
4. Animal Tracks and Signs – our tutor takes you through how to identify a range of droppings, feeding signs, nests, tracks and more. There is a separate picture quiz for this final video. Playing time 41 mins.

This is a self-study course. At the end there will be a short quiz and if you get over 70% you will receive a Certificate.
