Fascinating Fungi
Fungi are the most diverse organisms on Earth and contribute much to the rest of the living world including helping plants to gain nutrients and communicate with each other. There are more species of fungi than any other group of living organisms with an estimated 3.8 million species globally and more than 90% of them are yet to be discovered. The largest organism in the world is a fungus. They provide us with over 350 types of food from truffles to quorn. They are capable of breaking down plastics, creating materials similar to plastic, leather and building materials so there are endless other novel uses of fungi. You even have 200 species of fungi found on your feet!
