Ecology is an integral and valued part of Stantec’s Environmental Service to clients. Our collaborative approach to delivering ecological consultancy advice gets to the core of our clients’ needs and is well received by those we work with. This has resulted in increasing success and project wins around the UK over the last few years.

Our approach to ecological consultancy has been recognised through our receipt of accolades including the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management’s (CIEEM) Small Consultancy of the Year 2018 award and being highly commended by the judges for CIEEM’s Best Practice Large-Scale Nature Conservation Award in 2019, and a finalist for CIEEM’s Best Practice Award in the Large-scale Mitigation and Enhancement Category 2020.

Key to our future plans is the growth of our teams across the UK and currently we are looking for a Senior or Principal Ecologist to join us in Bristol, Reading or Cambridge. This is a good opportunity to join a growing, ambitious team that will provide you with plenty of scope for career progression in the coming years.

As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you would work amongst multi-disciplinary teams, all with the same client centric approach. You would work on an exciting and diverse range of projects across the Land Development and Infrastructure markets. Day to day tasks would include taking a lead in the management of projects, including managing commercial risk, project accounts and resource management. Client liaison and development of ecology capability with the business will also be key to your success.

About You

Primarily, we are looking for someone who has a passion for delivering effective solutions to our clients and a desire to grow and develop the business. You will be Degree qualified in Ecology, Conservation, Earth Sciences or a related topic, a full member of CIEEM, and ideally Chartered.

Ideally you will also have the following:

  • Proven experience within a professional ecological consultancy.
  • Proven experience of management of complex ecological issues within a project context.
  • In depth knowledge of relevant legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience of assessments, including, PEA, EcIA and HRA.
  • Experience of compiling fee proposals and project budgets.
  • Experience of winning work and team development desirable.
  • Expert witness and public inquiry experience is desirable.
