Stantec is a large global environmental and engineering consultancy that delivers a wide range of infrastructure and development projects throughout the UK. Currently we are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join us in Reading, or any of our offices in the South. Increasing workloads within our Thames Water capital delivery program and our success in winning new Water Company frameworks has resulted in the need to further grow our ecology team.

You will play a key role in our Stage 2 “de-risking” and optimisation activities, working with our multi-disciplinary teams to identify ecology related compliance risks associated with the planning system, net loss, protected species, invasive species and Habitats Regulations Assessments.

You will support the Lead Ecologist in developing proactive strategic initiatives, such as eDNA surveys and assist Capital Delivery in managing relations with environmental and wildlife groups, charities, regulators and other stakeholders.

Finally, you will also support the Lead Ecologist and Thames Water’s Asset Management and Biodiversity teams in educational and training initiatives to help embed an appropriate culture across the organisation;

About You

You will have a degree in environmental science or a similar ecological discipline and be working towards Chartered Status. Ideally, you will have membership of CIEEM & IFM RSB.

You will also have the following:-

  • Proven experience within a professional ecological consultancy.
  • Proven experience of management of complex ecological issues within a project context.
  • Expertise with the DEFRA biodiversity calculator.
  • In depth knowledge of relevant legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience of assessments, including, PEA, EcIA and HRA.
  • Ability to assist in embedding biodiversity into our programme and streamline reporting.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, to prepare well-written, concise reports, to present results and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment.
