Middlemarch Environmental is an award-winning natural environment consultancy that has recently embarked on an exciting period of strategic growth. Headquartered in Coventry and with regional teams across the UK, Middlemarch provides nationwide ecological, arboricultural and biodiversity services, as well as supporting clients with innovative landscape design and nature-based solutions.

Middlemarch has a bold ambition to be the environment consultancy of choice, offering trusted advice that helps to create an enduring natural environment legacy.

Many challenges can arise at the interface of nature and human development. Middlemarch provides expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients to address these challenges and ensure that the value in nature is fully understood, preserved and, wherever possible, enhanced.

Established in 1991, Middlemarch is a wholly owned subsidiary of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. Collectively, the Wildlife Trusts are the largest voluntary nature and conservation organisation in the UK with over 850,000 members and 35,000 volunteers working to improve nature.

THE ROLE

Over the last 30 years, the company’s ecological practice has developed a strong reputation and proven track record as a leader in the field.

As a Middlemarch Ecologist you’ll work across a wide range of ecological projects and field surveys for a variety of clients. Conducting Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Preliminary Ecological Assessments and core protected species surveys will be a key part of the role. You’ll also analyse field data and generate high-quality survey and mitigation reports for clients.

This role requires you to act as a brand ambassador for the business, communicating confidently and clearly with clients, providing sound advice, and ensuring their needs are understood. You’ll also need to demonstrate a commitment to health and safety, with an ability to complete dynamic risk assessments in the field.

As part of our South West regional team you’ll be home-based and will need to regularly travel around the South West region, and further afield as required. Middlemarch has recently upgraded its fleet and an electric or hybrid vehicle will be provided for this role.

Due to the nature of ecological fieldwork you’ll need to be prepared to work flexible and, at times, unsociable hours. Additional hours worked can be claimed as overtime and/or time off in lieu.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you’re an ecologist who is currently working at a senior level, or who is looking to take the next step in your consultancy career, this could be an opportunity for you.

All we require is that you are a confident and competent ecologist who can demonstrate relevant experience and/or qualifications.

Membership of CIEEM and a valid licence for Great Crested Newts and/or Bats would be advantageous.

WHAT WE OFFER

As a part of our team, you’ll be offered a competitive salary in line with your experience and skills, the potential for performance related rewards, company pension, and the opportunity for training and continued professional development.

You’ll be provided with all of the PPE and technical equipment needed for the role, as well as a laptop, mobile phone and access to a company vehicle.

Middlemarch celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and is committed to providing fair and equal access to opportunities for all candidates.
