The Role

As a Consultant Ecologist, you’ll be working on a wide variety of projects across multiple sectors and geographical areas. Your work will be both strategic and hands-on, with a strong focus on delivering ecologically sound, commercially viable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver ecological consultancy projects from start to finish

  • Conduct site surveys and oversee survey teams

  • Provide technical oversight and sign-off of ecological assessments

  • Develop mitigation and enhancement strategies

  • Complete Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)

  • Act as Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) when needed

  • Mentor junior staff and promote best practice

  • Generate and manage new business opportunities

  • Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders

  • Contribute to financial planning and project delivery

  • Travel as required across the UK and Ireland (occasional overnight stays)


What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ post-graduate experience in ecological consultancy

  • Degree in ecology or a closely related subject

  • Expertise in protected species and habitat surveys

  • Experience in mitigation design and implementation

  • Invasive species management knowledge

  • Familiarity with UK, Irish, and EU wildlife legislation and survey best practices

  • Proven project and financial management capability

  • Experience with protected species licensing and liaison with regulatory bodies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent report writing and attention to detail

  • Experience producing EIAs and HRAs

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Desirable:

  • Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) membership

  • Experience in team development and training

  • Use of latest field and reporting technologies
