Job Description
Do you have what it takes to transform society?
We are looking for a Senior Ecologist who is enthusiastic, curious, and ready for the next challenge. This role offers flexible working options, with a minimum of three days per week in the office or on-site and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
We have an amazing opportunity to join our growing team in the UK while playing a key role in driving our strategies regarding Nature Recovery, biodiversity net gain, and Natural Capital. If you’re looking to join a company that combines the advantages of being small in all the best ways yet large enough to provide diverse and exciting work, this job is for you.
What does the role involve?
As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll have the opportunity to conduct both site surveys and office-based work, lead projects, and deliver technical writing.
Role responsibilities may include:
- Managing small projects, including liaising with project managers and clients to deliver ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects.
- Undertaking desk studies and site-based preliminary ecological appraisals, including detailed habitat surveys to map habitats and assess their potential to support notable/protected species.
- Conducting analysis, evaluation, interpretation, and presentation of ecological data.
- Writing technical reports, such as preliminary ecological appraisal reports, ecological impact assessments, and protected species license applications.
- Performing the role of an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) on construction projects.
What we offer:
- Opportunities to work on key projects.
- Support and development as you work towards gaining licenses to work with protected species.
- Time in lieu for additional hours spent surveying during the season.
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- Experience managing small ecology projects from inception through to construction.
- Thorough understanding of UK survey methodology, legislation, guidelines, and best practices.
- Experience conducting preliminary ecological appraisals (PEA), protected species surveys, and/or habitat surveys.
- Report writing experience, including PEAs, ecological impact assessments, and protected species licenses.
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental or Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Desirable: CIEEM membership, protected species survey license, and ECoW experience.
- A current and full driving license with a willingness to travel to sites.
- An adaptable and flexible approach, as the role may involve occasional longer or unsociable hours and working away from home.
