Due to the continued growth and development of our Practice, we have exciting opportunities for seasonal and/or early-career ecologists to join our dynamic ecology team. The ecology practice has developed alongside the environmental contracting business that has been established since 1995 and offers the opportunity to be involved in habitat management and creation as well as ecology surveys and assessments.

We are based in the East Midlands and provide services throughout the UK to a range of clients from major infrastructure, utilities and housing, as well as many private clients, ensuring our work is very varied and diverse. The workload and client base continues to expand with exciting opportunities for a wide variety of habitat and species surveys, Ecological Clerk of Works and project ecologist services, alongside habitat creation and the integrated delivery of ecological mitigation packages.

With in-house ecology and environmental contracting teams working together we can provide a unique opportunity to deliver the work you develop, and experience the outcomes first-hand.

The Role:

To assist with ecological surveys and reporting in a dynamic, client and solution-focused commercial environment. This will involve:

  • Assisting with a wide range of ecological field surveys including baseline habitat assessments and protected species surveys (badgers, bats, birds, great crested newt, water vole, otter, white clawed crayfish etc)
  • Desk studies, survey data analysis and interpretation
  • Assisting in the production of ecological reports
  • BNG accounting and assessments
  • Basic project management and commercial awareness

We are looking for people that are solutions focussed, good at seeing the bigger picture and are practical and adaptable. You should have a desire and ambition to develop a broad range of skills and experience, with support and mentoring from senior team members.

Roles will initially be seasonal but with the potential to be retained in a permanent role.

Requirements are flexible for the right person to fit our team, however candidates should have:

  • An Honours degree in Ecology or a related subject
  • A full UK driving licence and at least 2 years experience of driving
  • Be a team player, with an adaptable and flexible approach to the type of work, timing and location.

With the following skills also being advantageous

  • Have a minimum of student or qualifying membership of CIEEM;
  • Have some experience of technical report writing
  • Capability in GIS would be advantageous
