Overview
We are delighted to be offering an exciting opportunity for part-time Seasonal Field Ecologists to join the consultancy team at Maydencroft Limited. We are a close-knit group of ecological, arboricultural, landscape, nature recovery and forestry consultants working as an integral part of a larger organisation which includes arborists, foresters, estate managers, grounds and landscape operatives and farmers.
This is a part time position of 30 hours per week, which will include some evening work. The contract is a fixed term contract of between 3-6 months with the possibility of extending. Due to locations all candidates must be car drivers.
The successful candidate will be working across our offices in Letchworth, Hertford and Windsor, with a great deal of remote working.
Responsibilities
- Assisting on a range of protected species surveys including:
– Bat emergence and re-entry surveys
– Bat transect surveys
– Reptile surveys
– Great crested newt surveys
– Bird nest surveys
– Sound and video data analysis of data gathered during surveys
– Ecological Clerk of Works
– Assisting with setting up reports – retrieving and analysing data searches
Experience
Essential
- Working towards or Graduate of a degree in Ecology or related subject;
– Thorough understanding of UK wildlife legislation
– Highly proficient with Microsoft Office
– Excellent communication skills and English language skills
– Comfortable with lone working and able to effectively manage working time
– Full, clean driving licence.
Desirable
- Post-graduate degree (or working towards) in Ecology or related subject;
– Use of specialist software such as QGIS, AutoCAD, and Cartographer
– Qualifying member of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or the Royal Society of Biology (RSB)
– Previous experience of protected species surveys
– Previous experience setting up ecological reports and undertaking desk studies
