WSP has a large, highly experienced and friendly Ecology team who get involved with a diverse range of interesting projects across a number of sectors within the UK for both private and public sector clients. The team pride themselves on the integrated support offered by working alongside our in-house water, landscape, arboriculture and sustainability specialists to deliver commercially balanced, innovative and integrated solutions.

We are looking to appoint a Seasonal Ecologist into our Cambridge office on a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract to support our growing workload.

A typical week would include:

  • Assisting our ecologists with planning and undertaking ecology surveys including extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys.
  • Input into technical reports and tenders.
  • Production of Health and Safety Plans and Risk Assessments.
  • Data management and analysis.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • An appropriate academic qualification in Ecology or a related discipline
  • Qualifying Member status with CIEEM (or are eligible for this)
  • Some demonstrable experience in ecological survey, ideally in a consultancy environment but other experience will be considered, including voluntary work
  • An enthusiastic, energetic outlook
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Experience of producing GIS maps
  • An appreciation of relevant wildlife legislation and ecological survey methodologies
  • A valid driving licence is desirable and you should be comfortable working in remote locations, potentially in adverse weather conditions and potentially staying away from home during the working week
  • Confident and highly motivated with good communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Able to demonstrate a pragmatic and proactive approach to project work, whilst working closely with fellow professionals both within WSP and externally as appropriate.
