Overview

We are a long established landscape architectural and environmental consultancy based in the north west of England. We deliver challenging and complex projects at both pre-planning and construction stages on behalf of our clients which includes provision of ecological services to compliment our work.

The company is seeking to recruit a project/senior ecologist to deliver ecological services in relation to a range of large and small scale projects covering residential, commercial, industrial developments as well as work related to landscape and conservation management. The successful candidate will work within a small team and help to deliver ecological consultancy alongside our senior ecologist but should be able to deliver ecology output in isolation and be capable of managing a small team of field assistants. The candidate should be technically strong in a variety of fields and commercially competent, with demonstrable experience in ecological consultancy and project management. Candidates with Phase 2 bat licence and experience of submitting licence applications to Natural England would be an advantage, but we are open to consider candidates with a broad experience.

As well as experience in a range of ecological survey work, candidates should have:

Ø  Environmental related degree;

Ø  Associate or chartered membership of CIEEM;

Ø  Experience in Phase 1 Habitat Surveys;

Ø  Class 1 or 2 bat licence with recent experience of bat survey work and reporting;

Ø  Knowledge of conducting HSI and Great Crested Newt presence and absence surveys, hold Class 2 licence with experience in applying for and implementing EPS licences for great crested newt and/or bats;

Ø  Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and policy;

Ø  Experience of engaging with relevant authorities and stakeholders in projects;

Ø  Good track record of delivering necessary project outputs within set deadlines;

Ø  Concise, thorough and robust report writing combined with good oral communication;

Ø  Clean, full driving licence.

 

The following would be an advantage but not essential for applications to be considered;

Ø  Good experience of Ecological Impact Assessment to standard methodologies;

Ø  Previous experience in working in private consultancy;

Ø  Experience in liaison with client representatives to progress projects effectively;

Ø  Ability to find solutions to ecological challenges on projects.

The successful candidate should be prepared for a flexible approach to working hours in order to meet the demands of the role, including longer and/or unsociable hours to conduct field work in appropriate seasons and to work away from home on occasions. The role will primarily involve undertaking ecology related fieldwork at sites throughout the UK as required, reporting, managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects and providing technical support to the wider team.
