Overview

The principal function of this position is to lead and help develop the Transportation Ecology Team in Worcester/SW England and lead ecological based projects whilst providing support to the wider Environment team and assistance to other professionals within our company. The role will comprise leading roles on major infrastructure development projects. The role requires contribution to the full life cycle of projects from EIA and detailed design stages through to the construction phase, which provides exciting opportunities for the implementation of mitigation, compensation and enhancements works and to deal with real ecological issues on site.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
· Provide a leading role for Transportation ecology
· Help co-ordinate ecology resources within Transportation
· Co-ordinate and undertake generalist and specialist field surveys (at habitat and species levels)
· Prepare and undertake ecological impact assessments, particularly to GRIP and DMRB specification and supplementary work to contribute to EIA’s
· Production of, and ensuring the delivery of, clear and concise reports
· Develop ecological management strategies / plans
· Prepare budgets and fee estimates and input into Environmental Studies
· Prepare and manage protected species licences
· Quality reviewing others work
· Mentor junior colleagues
· Be a point of contact for project colleagues, client and stakeholders and work with them to achieve the best outcomes
· Work with / organise sub-contractors for field work
· Supporting other environmental staff and other colleagues as required
Basic Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications/Experience
· The successful candidate should possess a relevant degree or masters, be a full member of CIEEM and be chartered with a relevant body (e.g. Society for the Environment)
· Experienced in ecological surveys, including habitat identification (to standardised survey methodologies Phase 1, NVC etc)
· Experienced and knowledgeable on the EcIA process, particualrly with regard to DMRB.
· Experienced in working on large infrastructure projects and within teams
· Ability to lead and mentor others
· Detailed knowledge and understanding of wildlife legislation and policy in the UK
· Track record in ecological assessment skills related to terrestrial ecology
· Hold one or more protected species licences
· Experienced in faunal survey methodologies
· Experienced in the application of species mitigation and preparation of protected species licence application method statements
· Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and ability to write concise and effective proposals and technical reports
· Experienced in the application of GRIP and DMRB methodologies and assessment criteria
· Reliability and an interest in growing own skills and taking on additional responsibilities
· Eligibility to work in the UK
· Flexibility in working away from the base office
· Full clean driving licence
