Ecosulis is seeking an experienced Principal Ecologist who is passionate about restoring ecosystems and driving large-scale, impactful projects.

Roles and responsibilities to include:
- Project Leadership: Lead and manage the coordination, resourcing, budgeting, and delivery of multiple ecological and rewilding projects.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical input and review for ecological quotations, reports, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and rewilding strategies.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality of client deliverables, including mitigation licence applications, ecological reports, management plans, and project bids.
- Team Mentorship: Mentor and support junior ecologists and interns, fostering their technical skills and ecological expertise.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Ecosulis in meetings with clients, statutory bodies, and the public.
- Cross functional working: Work closely with Marketing and Partnerships to deliver key account management requirements.
- Risk Management: Report on project risks and delivery progress to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Field Work: Undertake site surveys and provide ecological guidance across the company.
- Team Leadership: Lead weekly team meetings and ensure effective communication and progress tracking.

About you
The ideal candidate will be an experienced ecologist with a proven track record in delivering high-quality ecological assessments, BNG, and project leadership. Skilled in stakeholder engagement, you bring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to mentor and support a growing team. With in-depth knowledge of ecological legislation and rewilding principles, you’re ready to take on a senior leadership role and drive impactful nature recovery projects.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- A degree in Ecology or a related field (a higher degree is a plus).
- A minimum of 8 years experience in ecology or rewilding projects.
- Full membership of CIEEM; Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist status is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in delivering competitive quotations, BNG assessments, EcIAs, and ecological reports.
- Licences for protected species (e.g., GCN, Class 2 Bat, Dormice) held for at least three years.
- Excellent knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy.
- Detailed understanding of ecological and rewilding principles, biodiversity metrics, and relevant environmental legislation.
- Experience in writing and delivering PEAs, BNG assessments, EcIAs, and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements.
- Experience in technical and quality review of ecological reports.
- Strong commercial awareness and project management skills.
- The ability to liaise with key clients and gain a deeper understanding of their needs and how you can add value.
- Experience in working cross functionally to deliver high quality results for clients and key accounts.
- Line management and team leadership experience.

Location: The role will be home based with travel to site, client meetings and management meetings as needed
Reports to: Managing Director.
A full UK driving licence and use of own vehicle will be required for this position.
