Are you an experienced Ecologist thinking about a new opportunity in the Midlands? Would you like to join a business with a broad project portfolio and a reputation for innovation, service and for being a great place to work?

Due to growth and our new 2025 strategy we are looking to appoint a Senior Ecologist to join our Environmental team in Leicester. However, with offices across the Midlands alternative locations are also considered: Birmingham, Derby or Nottingham. You will work alongside our Environmental Team and provide ecological input into the appraisal, design and project planning process as advice, co-ordination of surveys and impact assessment, both directly and through management of our supply chain partners.

This role would be ideal for someone who wants to make an impact, help shape an Environmental department and take on a leadership role to grow their team. The projects are likely to span numerous sectors from educational, retail, government, healthcare and residential.

Your main duties will include:

Visiting sites to undertake surveys of animals, plants and their environment
Researching the impact of construction and other human activity
Manage supply chain partners to assist with undertaking surveys
Building computer models to predict effects of construction work
Advising on legal regulations in relation to protected species
Identifying and recording details of habitats and species
Producing reports detailing the potential environmental impact of any disruption to the environment and making recommendations on how best to manage it
About You
Key skills and experience we would like you to have:

Relevant degree in Ecology or similar
Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or other relevant institution.
Minimum of 5 years relevant post-graduation work experience
Suitably Qualified Ecologist for BREEAM and conversant in BREEAM requirements for ecology
Experience of managing or conducting an array of habitat and protected species surveys and detailed knowledge of their survey techniques
Detailed working knowledge of the planning system, UK / EU wildlife legislation and UK ecology
Demonstrative ability for client care within an ecological consultancy setting
Experience of designing, implementing and managing ecological mitigation on a range of projects
Proven experience of producing technical reports, EPSM/BLICL Licences, tenders and effective communication with clients, third parties (NE, LPAs) and colleagues
