In the marine and coastal environment, RPS provides services to the renewable (offshore wind, wave and tidal energy), oil & gas, power generation (nuclear, gas, biomass, CHP), transmission infrastructure, ports & harbours and public sector markets.

RPS has a strong reputation for the provision of high quality, expert advice to its clients. To service our existing contracts in the Renewable and Power Generation Sectors, and due to increasing project work, RPS is looking to recruit Marine Environmental Consultant(s).

Job outline
You will form part of our experienced Marine Environmental team, providing consultancy advice to our existing clients, in addition to helping shape the direction and growth of business across existing and new sectors. You will work both independently and within a team, and to coordinate, large multi-disciplinary projects, providing support on marine energy infrastructure developments.

Ideally, this role (or these roles) would be based in our Woking or central London office (London Wall), although other RPS office locations would be considered for the right candidate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• To support the delivery of large scale marine and coastal infrastructure projects, in the following areas:
o EIA coordination and delivery
o Involvement in stakeholder meetings and preparation of materials to support external consultation, including the Evidence Plan Process and Examination Phase of DCO projects
o Technical review of reports and quality assurance of deliverables
o Provide support on associated assessments e.g. Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Water Framework Directive (WFD), European Protected Species (EPS) and Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ)
o Liaison with other internal teams in particular planning, offshore technical and onshore EIA teams
o Commercial and financial management budgets
o Programme management to ensure delivery programme is maintained
o Provision of marine and environmental consenting and planning advice
o Post-consent compliance
• Build relationships with both statutory consultees and other groups/members of the public at external events
• To provide technical and/or management support to other team members
• To work closely with the RPS management team to identify and cultivate new business opportunities in our existing core markets and seek new markets

Required Qualifications and Experience:
• BSc in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably in a marine subject (e.g. marine ecology, fisheries, oceanography or similar) (or equivalent level)
• Membership or chartered status of a relevant professional institute (e.g. IEMA, CIEEM, IMarEST)Progression towards membership for Consultant grade position.
• Ideally some experience in marine or coastal projects in at least one of RPS’s core sectors or demonstrably transferrable experience from other sectors. Level of experience will dictate staff grade.
• Understanding of the EIA process
• Demonstrable skills in the drafting and production of Scoping Reports or similar
• EIA and technical report-writing
• Excellent communication skills and experience of liaising with clients and stakeholders
• Project management experience including management of subcontractors and associates financial management and administration
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, inter-personal and communication skills
• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a growing team
