An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified individual to join our Natural Environment Team. This Team delivers green infrastructure across North Somerset through the interdependent services of parks and open spaces, rights of way, trees, flooding, ecology and landscape.

We are looking for a senior Ecologist with experience of managing staff and leading on complex planning cases to help meet the challenge around delivering ecological advice related to planning applications and development; and supporting colleagues delivering high quality green infrastructure throughout North Somerset.

You will need to primarily demonstrate an excellent understanding of ecological planning issues. There will also be opportunities to work with colleagues who deliver strategic planning, countryside and wildlife sites management, biodiversity enhancement, data recording and working with volunteers.

You work will include prioritising responses to planning applications, compiling reports and providing planning advice and assisting colleagues with work specifications, plans and supervising external contractors.

You will have experience in a similar role, preferably within a local authority, or hold a relevant qualification to level 6 or above.

You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be computer literate.

Whilst the COVID restrictions are in place the role will be mainly working from home.
