Locogen has a growing inhouse Environmental Team made up of ecologists, ornithologists, hydrologists and environmental engineers primarily working on utility scale onshore wind and solar projects.

Locogen’s vision is a world powered 100% by renewables; where everyone has access to affordable, sustainable energy and clean air.   We’re a multidisciplinary renewable energy company; offering our clients consultancy, design, development, build and management of renewable assets.

About our Graduate Ecology Technician Role:

This is a great opportunity for someone with an ecology or environmental degree to work closely with our senior team delivering the ecological elements of renewable projects to our clients.

Who would be a good fit?:

  • A graduate with a good foundation understanding of UK ecology & biodiversity; including a working knowledge of protected species and non-native invasives legislation.
  • An ecology graduate with experience of bat assessment, ideally with experience of bat call analysis with the software Kaleidoscope from Wildlife Acoustics or similar.
  • Someone who is keen to help deliver projects with a pro-active solution-based approach and assist in designing largescale renewables developments that are sympathetic to ecological interests.
  • This is primarily an office-based role, so a graduate who is keen to focus on the written and data-based elements of ecology rather than fieldwork will be paramount, however there may be occasional opportunities to undertake and assist with fieldwork.
  • Someone with a keen eye for detail and the ability to organise, review and manage large ecological datasets to a high standard.
  • Someone who loves learning, because we have a number of incredibly knowledgeable people who love to teach and develop people’s skills.
  • It’s a friendly environment where we all collaborate, support and learn from each other. So, if you like to have fun and enjoy your work you will fit right in here.

Here are some beneficial but not essential skills:

  • Some prior experience of managing large datasets efficiently and effectively.
  • An understanding of renewable energy technologies
  • Previous experience of liaising with multiple stakeholders.
  • GIS skills – particularly in QGIS & CAD software.

What does the day to day look like?:

Our work is varied but here are some of the things you might find yourself doing:

  • Management of large ecological datasets
  • Reviewing and analysing ecological datasets; including bat analysis.
  • Assisting with Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA)
  • Liaising with clients and a variety of stakeholders across multiple projects.
  • Helping to manage a large team of sub-contactor surveyors across the breadth of the UK.
  • Health & Safety management – drafting of Risk Assessments & Methods Statements (RAMS) and help in implementing safe working procedures on our sites.
  • Assisting with the drafting of technical reports.
  • Assisting in undertaking fieldwork and site visits for onshore wind and solar sites.
  • Helping to provide ecological and environmental technical support to other business units within the company.
