Golder has a new opportunity for a Consultant Ecologist to join our Environmental Services team on a full time basis based in Bourne End.

Working as part of a small but extremely busy team, your role will primarily be to support the Senior Ecologist and provide ecology services within the UK and internationally. The role will involve undertaking protected species surveys, report writing and helping with business development activity.  In addition, you will also work within the wider Environmental Management team providing support to Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Permitting and Site Characterisation teams as required.  This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in these technical areas together with exposure to business development activities to contribute to the growth of the team.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

Undertaking protected species and habitats surveys;
Report writing of preliminary ecological appraisals, ecological impact assessments and ecology/biodiversity chapters for environmental statements;
Assisting with the generation of tender opportunities through business development with existing and new clients;
Assisting with the preparation of tenders, liaising with clients and team members (internally and externally);
Being part of a team that makes complex decisions with consideration of appropriate inputs; and
As required, working with other consultants in the wider Environmental Management team

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Relevant BSc in environmental sciences, geology, physics or chemistry with a background at A/A2 Level in mathematics.
Grounded and practical knowledge and understanding of ecological guidelines, regulations and practices;
Career history working as an ecological consultant, with demonstrable experience of providing ecological input to EIA projects;
Experience of European Protected Species Licencing procedures, including mitigation;
Demonstrable experience of EcIA project co-ordination experience across a range of areas;
Full member of CIEEM;
Be fully conversant in the CIEEM Ecological Impact Assessment Guidelines and their application;
Specialism in a relevant ecology field (e.g. great crested newts, flora, bats, invertebrates etc.);
Ability to network and communicate well internally, but also externally with clients;
Excellent decision-making skills, demonstrating initiative and autonomous thinking;
Good knowledge of Health & Safety, giving priority to its importance at all times;
Full driving licence; and
Willingness and ability to travel both in the UK and internationally.
