Overview

Heatons are seeking an experienced, professional ecologist to join our busy ecology team in Derby. Working closely with our planning and landscape architecture teams, the successful candidate will take a lead role in managing and delivering projects, organising fieldwork and resourcing and developing relationships with our existing and prospective clients. 

We provide our clients with the full range of ecological services including habitat and species surveys, assessment and advice on biodiversity mitigation.

Established in 1999, Heatons are a client-focused planning, environment, and design consultancy with extensive experience in adding value to a range of development schemes.

Our team of experienced planners, landscape architects and ecologists work collaboratively with our network of specialist technical contacts to ensure our clients receive the highest quality service and advice.

We offer expertise for housing, employment and commercial uses as well as other forms of development, including the built heritage and natural environment, minerals and waste.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Managing and carrying out desk and field-based habitat and species surveys;
  • Co-ordination of field and office-based work;
  • Writing and reviewing ecological assessments, reports, drawings and other deliverables;
  • Supervising and mentoring of junior and seasonal staff;
  • Managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects; and
  • Interacting with project teams, clients and other stakeholders.

Minimum requirements:

  • CIEEM Membership (Full or Chartered Status);
  • Relevant Undergraduate or Masters Degree;
  • Experience of working in an ecology-related job role in the public and / or private sector;
  • Experience of organising and undertaking field surveys;
  • Experience of producing a range of reports and providing ecological advice to clients and stakeholders;
  • Experience of data processing and managing datasets;
  • Experience of using GIS and/or other relevant software to produce drawings and plans.
