Natural Power is a leading independent renewable energy consultancy and products provider offering consultancy, management and due diligence services across the onshore wind, offshore wind, wave, tidal and renewable heat sectors.  We have built a successful ethos for delivering environmentally rewarding projects that allow Clients to reach their economic objectives.

The Planning & Environment department within Natural Power is made up of a diverse range of ecologists, hydrologists and planners with considerable technical experience and expertise from having worked on renewable projects for over twelve years.

The Opportunity

Due to the continued success of the Planning & Environment department, we are looking to recruit an experienced Ecologist into our office in Inverness.  Some of the duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

  • To undertake ecological fieldwork associated with onshore wind farm and infrastructure developments throughout the UK.Survey work will be associated with schemes that are in the development, construction and post-construction phases;
  • To be responsible for fieldwork teams (when on site and also when in the office) and co-ordinate all required aspects of the fieldwork ensuring that work is completed on time and to a high quality standard;
  • To provide expertise and assistance/advice to ecology team project managers on ecological matters, specifically ornithological aspects of projects;
  • To provide technical input/advice to clients and to write technical reports;
  • Where applicable, to liaise with clients, landowners and statutory consultees throughout the course of the projects; and
  • To undertake Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) role on onshore construction projects in the UK in Northern Scotland (Highlands, Moray & Aberdeenshire).
Qualifications:

You will hold a degree or equivalent in a biological, environmental or ecological discipline.  Further to academic qualifications, it is essential that you have demonstrable experience in a similar role, fulfilling comparable duties and responsibilities as discussed above.

You should have specialist ornithology and vegetation/habitat skills, specifically tailored for the renewable industry.  You should also have experience and be able to undertake terrestrial ecological field surveys such as otter, water vole and badger surveys and be aware of how construction can impact upon these species and what legislation and guidance is applicable.

In addition to the above, it would be beneficial to have previous experience of undertaking the ECoW role, be familiar with the requirements of the role during the construction phase of a renewables development, specifically onshore wind, and to hold a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills being able to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders at all levels involved in projects.  As a result of this, you will possess excellent communication skills being able to convey clear and concise information in both written and verbal format to colleagues, clients, contractors and third parties.

You will be capable of producing technical reports and as a result, you will be a proficient user of I.T. (Microsoft Office).  Exposure to Document Management Systems and/or Enterprise Resource Planning software would be advantageous.

Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to be flexible with your time and standard duties.  A full drivers’ licence is essential.

The position is based from our light, spacious and well-furnished office in Dochfour Business Centre just ten minutes south of Inverness (A82).  Beautifully located in the wilderness it offers all the benefits of country living, such as the diverse wildlife and the scenic Loch Ness canal less than ten minutes away.  In contrast it is close enough to Inverness to ensure that you will have access to its many amenities, such as supermarkets, schools, train/bus stations, airport and post office amongst other things.
