About the role

An exciting new role has been created to help deliver the Council’s new duty to secure Biodiversity Net Gain through development.  You will be part of a new Ecology team within the Council’s Countryside service reporting to the District Ecologist.  You will provide specialist advice to our planners to ensure that ecological matters are given due weight in the planning process and that decisions are fully informed by your knowledge and experience.  You will also provide advice on policies to assist in the development of our Local Plan that reflect our new duties in the Environment Act.

About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about wildlife and can demonstrate a good level of understanding and experience in assessing the ecological implications of development proposals.  We want someone who can build effective relationships and work hand in glove with our planning service.  You must hold a relevant degree or have equivalent experience and be an Associate or Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards full membership.

About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding.  Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy.  We are well placed to achieve this given our district encompasses a World Heritage Coast, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and nationally and internationally recognised wildlife sites such as the Exe Estuary, East Devon Pebblebed Heaths and the River Axe, as well as a huge range of county wildlife sites and local nature reserves which provide a rich diversity of wildlife and breath-taking vistas.
