Overview

As a result of our continued growth, Atmos Consulting requires an Ecologist to join our team on an initial 12 month fixed term contract.   The role will support the delivery of a growing portfolio of projects across Wales and the North West of England, across a diverse range of sectors including: Property development, infrastructure and energy development projects.

The role assumes at least 2 years’ experience in undertaking ecological/ornithological surveys in accordance with published methodologies and will involve being in the field for approximately 80% of the time, occasionally in remote locations; therefore the ability to drive is a critical requirement.

Professional Experience

We are seeking a self-motivated individual who can demonstrate a proven track record in some or all of the following:

  • Experience of undertaking ornithology surveys, ideally holding a Schedule 1 bird licence.
  • Experience of undertaking bat activity, emergence and static monitoring surveys using Anabat and/or SM2 bat detectors, ideally with some experience of data analysis using Analook software. A bat survey licence would be advantageous.
  • Experience of undertaking great crested newt (GCN) surveys. Competence in the identification of aquatic macrophytes and aquatic invertebrates is essential, with a GCN survey licence advantageous.
  • Experience of Phase 1 habitat survey with good identification skills across all higher plant groups. Experience of NVC survey would also be an advantage

Personal Qualities

As with all of our posts, the following are also of key importance to fulfil the requirements of this roles:

  • Attention to good practice in terms of health and safety issues, including when lone-working under our lone-worker system (day time only – no night time lone working);
  • Attention to technical detail, in both recording and transcribing/checking survey data;
  • An enthusiasm to do a good job every time, and take advantage of the support offered by our permanent staff (one of whom will be your nominated mentor);
  • A passion for ecology and nature conservation and a desire to develop your career in this area;
  • A working knowledge of MS Word and Excel; and
  • The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
