An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Ecologist to join Capita’s Real Estate and Infrastructure’s team in the South.
You will work well within a wider team of Ecology professionals who work closely with colleagues in other disciplines, such as Planning, Landscape and Geotechnical engineering. Our varied portfolio will give you the opportunity to work across several different sectors to expand on your experience.
The Ecologist’s role is instrumental in achieving the timely, efficient and thorough completion of projects via desk-based studies, surveying and reporting. The aim of the role is to rapidly develop your skills and grow the business in the southern region of the UK. The appointment will help with the delivery of current and forthcoming projects in an exciting flexible working environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carry out ecological surveys and lead surveys (as appropriate according to personal ecological specialisms) including: Phase 1 habitat surveys, site assessments for protected species, initial inspections for bats and follow-up surveys of activity, great crested newts using standard techniques
  • Interpret survey data and advise colleagues and clients clearly about implications
  • Author and produce of accurate, thorough, and comprehensive reports written to format and in plain English
  • Meet deadlines within the agreed budget
  • Provide on-the-job coaching of junior members of staff in carrying out desk-based studies, surveying techniques, plant and animal ID as appropriate to personal specialisms and report preparation
  • Respond efficiently to queries about current work/projects – responding to queries within 24 hours wherever possible
  • Ability to drive for meetings and surveys
  • Work safely in a range of environments
  • Undertake work at a range of locations across the country and at times dictated by the needs of the business

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrable ability to undertake ecological surveys, including Phase 1 habitat surveys, site assessments for protected species, initial inspections for bats and follow-up surveys of activity, great crested newts using standard techniques, as a minimum
  • Demonstrable ability to manage workload and small projects to successfully meet deadlines within an agreed budget
  • Good report writing skills including production of accurate, thorough and comprehensive reports written to format and in plain English
  • Ability to adjust to quickly changing circumstances/demands – able to undertake multiple tasks of varying priorities and identify priorities accurately
  • Ability to drive.
