Overview

Full-time or part-time

We have a job opportunity for an ecologist with an honours degree in ecology or a closely related field, and three or more years’ experience working in an ecology-related environment.

You will ideally hold survey licences for at least one protected species.

You will be experienced in undertaking a range of arboricultural, habitat and protected species surveys, including extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and Phase 2 protected species surveys, in accordance with recognised best practice guidelines. You should be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of European and national nature conservation legislation and UK planning policy.

You will have experience in the production and review of technical ecological reports, and be experienced in working with mapping software tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS and AutoCAD. You will need to demonstrate excellent written and oral skills, and be confident in liaising directly with clients, sub-contractors, local planning authorities, NatureScot and other conservation bodies.

You will have a full current UK driving licence, and be willing to work flexibly, including unsociable hours, particularly during the summer survey season.

In return, we can offer:

  • a competitive salary based on your experience
  • the option of full-time or part-time hours, with the potential for office or home working
  • a flexible TOIL scheme
  • CPD through internal and external training opportunities
  • payment of professional membership fees
  • a mobile phone allowance and sustenance expenses when on survey work

We hope you will be interested in this exciting opportunity to work in a positive, dog-friendly, relaxed work environment with a small team of passionate, good-humoured (most of the time!), and like-minded individuals.
