Overview

North Lincolnshire has many areas which are noted for their natural beauty and biodiversity value. There are internationally important nature conservation sites at Crowle Moor and the Humber Estuary. Wildlife sites and habitats that are recognised as being of national, regional and local importance, within or partly within North Lincolnshire, include almost 30 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, over 250 Local Wildlife Sites, almost 40 Local Geological Sites, and nearly 20 Local Nature Reserves. These sites support important natural assets, such as ancient woodland, heathland, acid grassland and wetland.

The Council is seeking a self-motivated, committed and organised person, who is keen to develop a career in nature conservation, to join its multi-disciplinary Natural & Historic Environment Team. The post is two year fixed term. In the role you will provide specialist ecological advice to the Development Management Team, Spatial Planning, other council services and the public on matters of the natural environment. Typically, advice will cover protected and priority habitats and species, designated sites, ancient woodland, biodiversity net gain and Habitats Regulations Assessments. You will also play a part in the Council’s proactive biodiversity work, including site and buildings surveys, management planning advice and promoting the Duty to Conserve and Enhance Biodiversity.

You should be educated to University degree, diploma or equivalent level in an Ecology related discipline and should have a full driving licence and/or the ability to travel around the North Lincolnshire area. Whilst we welcome applicants with local authority ecologist experience, we will also consider recently qualified candidates with an eagerness to learn and develop within the organisation.

Priority will be given to candidates with understanding of planning applications and lowland England’s key habitats and species.

Joining our progressive and welcoming team will bring a range of benefits, including:

  • A competitive salary
  • A comprehensive induction
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Salary sacrifice scheme
  • Agile working arrangements.
