The Service & Team:

Cornwall Council has an exciting role available for a qualified Ecologist to join a multidisciplinary environment team to provide specialist advice to the environment and planning services. The primary requirements of the role are to be the point of contact for professional ecological advice and guidance for the Council’s planning teams, capital projects and estate management.

You will be the point of contact for ecological advice on strategic planning and corporate policy documents and contribute to their preparation, advising on Biodiversity Net Gain. You will represent the Council at meetings with local and national organisations and partnerships and to promote the Council’s biodiversity commitments and policies.

The Role:

To post holder will work alongside the existing ecologist to provide expert professional and technical advice within a specialist work area, to supplement the ecological advisory service to the Council, ensuring nature, conservation, biodiversity and biodiversity net gain are fully considered throughout the Councils work.

You will be the authority’s joint expert on all matters relating to ecology, biodiversity and biodiversity net gain, providing ecological responses to planning consultations and strategic ecological advice.

You will promote, protect and manage the wider environment for biodiversity and climate change adaptation.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

What you’ll need to succeed:

Degree in Ecology or a closely related environment field.

Eligible for Membership of CIEEM or similar professional institute.
