Vacancy for an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist

ECOSA is seeking a new Ecologist/Senior Ecologist to join our friendly team.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Skills
A minimum of two years post-qualification experience, preferably within a consultancy, local authority or planning environment as an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist;
An ability to generate new or repeat business;
Experience of project co-ordination, management of budgets and an awareness of business and health and safety risk management;
A good understanding of the role of consultants within the commercial sector, and the vision and ability to identify and expand new areas of business for the ecology team;
A minimum of one Natural England and/or Natural Resources Wales protected species licences – ideally the candidate should hold a Level 2 bat licence;
Phase 1 habitat survey and protected species survey capability, ideally with an area of specialisation;
Experience of producing and implementing protected species development licences;
Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment;
Experience of designing and implementing ecological mitigation schemes;
Experience of working with contractors; and
Demonstrate exceptional written communications skills and have experience in writing technical reports and proposals.

Desirable Skills
The ability to undertake ornithological surveys;
Botanical survey skills;
Experience of managing and checking the work of junior colleagues; and
Experience of procuring and working with ecology sub-contractors.
Responsibilities will include:
Providing technical and project support to the team;
Producing reports and protected species development licence applications;
Preparing fee proposals and delivering CPD sessions to new and existing clients;
Working effectively as a team player in delivering a first class service to our clients;
Management of budgets and deadlines for projects; and
May involve investing time in the technical development of more junior team members.

The successful candidate must be prepared to be flexible over travel and hours, especially during the spring/summer survey season when it is a requirement to be available to work in the evenings and early mornings.
