About the Position
We are currently seeking a Consultant Ecologist for a newly established Environmental Planning (EP) team based in the United Kingdom.
As the Consultant Ecologist you will play a pivotal role within our expanding EP Team. Your primary responsibilities will be to perform a diverse array of Ecology projects (including but not limited to designing and managing ecological surveys, undertaking extended phase 1 habitat/UK Habitat Classification surveys and surveys for legally protected species, producing a range of ecological reports, liaising with clients, their planning teams, contractors and the general public, and building and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels within the business, with clients, subcontractors and other third parties such as regulators, statutory consultees, etc.) Your influence will extend to the delivery of services to national and international clients across a wide range of sectors, including but not limited to property, technology, retail, chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, food and beverage, automation, healthcare, and financial industries.
To be successful in this role, individuals must demonstrate:
- Managing a project with support from its inception through the design and management of ecological surveys, and providing pragmatic advice to clients, including on master planning to ensure that the mitigation hierarchy has been followed in regard to Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Undertaking extended phase 1 habitat surveys/UK Habitat Classification surveys to accurately describe and map habitats and assess their potential to support notable/protected species.
- Undertaking surveys for all common legally protected species.
- Undertaking the role of Ecological Clerk of Works.
- Producing ecological reports to a high standard.
- Liaising with clients, their planning teams, contractors and the general public.
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels within the business, including across the Inogen Alliance, as well as with clients, subcontractors and other third parties (regulators, statutory consultees, etc.).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject (2:1 or higher).
- Two to three years’ experience as a professional ecological consultant.
- Qualifying membership of CIEEM (or higher) and a willingness to work towards a higher level in time.
- Good ecological field skills covering a range of protected species and habitats.
- A clear understanding of the legislative and planning policy framework as it relates to ecology and nature conservation.
- The ability to prepare quality technical reports in line with CIEEM guidelines.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Full clean driving licence.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- Experience of using GIS.
- Knowledge of BREEAM 2018 assessments.
- Knowledge of the Defra Biodiversity Metric and UK Habitat Classification.
- Any Natural England survey licence (Level 1 or above).
- BSBI FISC (Level 3 or above).
- CSCS Card.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Our newly established consulting operation in the United Kingdom will be supported by our sister company, Antea Group USA.
This position will be a hybrid role, being primarily homebased with periodic travel required to Antea Group offices or client premises in the United Kingdom. Some project locations will require overnight travel (up to 25%). The successful candidate must have the right to work in the UK.
