AECOM is seeking experienced ecologists to join our established ecology team based in Basingstoke. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career within an established and successful business that has welfare and wellbeing as core values.

As an Associate Ecologist with AECOM, you’ll be reliable, hard-working, organised and pro-active, in order to help you manage a busy workload. You’ll have specialist knowledge developed over the course of your career, and experience of a wide range of projects. You’ll have experience of delivering major projects, good project management skills and report-writing skills, and experience of line-managing individuals.

Job Duties:

  • Provide technical leadership in support of major projects
  • Liaising with clients, project managers and other project stakeholders including statutory bodies;
  • Managing and mentoring staff as part of our mentoring / line management network;
  • Represent AECOM externally through projects, client management, publications and presentations;
  • Lead in the winning, delivery and management (technical and financial) of ecological projects.
  • Undertaking other tasks which add value to the technical expertise and development of the ecology team, or support wider environmental business goals;
  • Planning and organising project studies;
  • Providing technical input to reporting with the ability to follow quality assurance processes;
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
  • AECOM has a proactive “working global” initiative which means that there are opportunities to work on and in International Projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and policy, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA);
  • Holder of relevant protected species survey licences;
  • Experience of protected species mitigation licensing;
  • Technical and professional proficiency with a demonstrable history of delivering ecology projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets;
  • Strong project management skills and experience (including technical, financial and quality aspects);
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in particular, the ability to write concise technical reports;
  • Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients, as well as to manage own time;
  • Experience in line management as well as technical leadership of teams of ecologists on major projects;
  • Electronic data capture, analysis and presentation;
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work (as all roles are likely to involve occasional longer/and or unsociable hours)
