Overview

Are you looking to gain or build on survey experience? Then you’ll want to take this opportunity. Are you keen to develop your own consulting style? You’re in the right place. We are now accepting applications for our 6-month seasonal assistant ecologist positions, starting in March 2025. We are looking to fill positions across our core office locations including:

  • London;
  • Bristol;
  • Exeter;
  • Birmingham; and
  • Manchester

We will invite candidates to attend our fun and interactive assessment day and interview on Thursday 28th November 2024 in our Birmingham office.

We are an environmental consultancy getting the life/work balance right as we work a 4-day work week. For two days per week, we like to be in the office or have face-to-face contact with our colleagues on-site, because we know from experience that some of the most valuable learning is unscheduled and comes from being right in the middle of the action.

Working in the ecology planning sector, you will be assisting on field-based survey work as well as completing important data searches and analysis. You’ll also be contributing to the writing of reports and issuing recommendations on behalf of your colleagues. Whilst with us, you’ll have the opportunity to liaise with our clients and stakeholders, giving you a well rounded introduction to ecology consultancy. You can also expect to spend time away from home, including overnight stays, during the working week to visit sites across the country.

Here at Tyler Grange, we are a company led by our values, committed to setting and raising standards both within our profession and for the communities that we are a part of. We’re looking for new members of our tribe who:

– Hold an academic qualification in ecology or biological sciences

– Are experienced in software including MS Office, Magic Interactive Map and preferably QGIS

– Have an awareness of the legislation governing ecological practices

– Consider themselves to be proactive team players

– Have strong written and verbal communication skills including report writing

– Are interested in gaining individual species licences

– Hold a full UK driving licence

The people you collaborate with inside and outside of Tyler Grange are who shape your experience here. We are a tribe, a gathering of likeminded people who praise our colleagues, value our clients and give back to our communities. Why don’t you join us?

You don’t need to take our word for it – a previous successful participant and now a current tribe member said :

“I joined Tyler Grange in 2023 through the seasonal Assistant Ecologist position. I applied online and then attended an in-person interview day. The interview day was great fun, and I was able to meet a lot of the TG team and complete some fun tasks as well as a one-on-one interview – which was very relaxed!

I then joined the team in April 2023 and completed a season gaining a lot of really great experience, such as protected species surveys, habitat surveys and desk work. Since my first season, I have become a permanent member of the team and my skills have continued to grow, taking on project management, more complex survey work and equipment responsibilities!”

If you need any additional support from us during the application process, please reach out to Helen (helen.brittain@tylergrange.co.uk) or Lucie (lucie.waldron@tylergrange.co.uk) or include this in your application itself, as we are committed to ensuring that every candidate has equitable access to our opportunities.

Our timeline for appointing these positions is as follows:

  • Thursday 31st October 2024 – deadline for applications
  • 14th November 2024 – invitations to attend the assessment day issued
