Overview

I need assistants in the Manchester area to help with dusk emergence and dawn return-to-roost surveys between April/May and September/October. There is no closing date but please apply as soon as possible.

I’m looking for freelance ecologists on a self- employed basis and enthusiastic volunteers on travelling expenses.

This is casual work you can fit-in when you’re available, perhaps once or twice a week, possibly including weekends. Dawn availability is particularly useful.

With almost 30 years’ experience of working with bats, I offer a learning opportunity for anyone venturing into bat consultancy or conservation work.

Existing experience of watching bats in flight and/or using a heterodyne detector is useful.

Punctuality, reliability, good concentration skills and professional approach are  vital.

The closer to BL9 you live (within an hour’s drive, preferably less) the more opportunities I can offer you. Most local applicants get the opportunity to participate. Pay is dependent on your level of competence. Due to the unsocial hours involved, access to a car is usually essential.

Please supply your name, e-mail address, ‘phone number and summer location for an application pack.

There may be an opportunity for you to gain experience of other aspects of bat work.
