We’re Growing, and We Need You!
As our bat-related projects continue to expand and become more challenging, we’re looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Bat Ecologist (or Ecologist) to join our team. Whether you’re looking for a full-time or part-time role, this is your chance to be part of something special. The position is based at our Grade II listed offices in Bradford on Avon, with flexibility to work from home as part of our Flexible Working Policy.
You’ll be joining a friendly and experienced team, working closely with our Lead Bat Ecologist, who holds advanced Natural England class licences for rare bat species, such as horseshoes and grey long-eared bats. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills and work on exciting projects that make a real difference.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead and manage bat-focused projects across a range of sectors, ensuring successful outcomes.
- Conduct essential field surveys, including Preliminary Roost Assessments, Daytime Bat Walkover surveys, Tree Assessments, and activity surveys.
- Coordinate the use of bat survey equipment, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
- Write detailed, high-quality reports including bat surveys, EPS Licence applications, and more.
- Analyze bat data with strong attention to detail and use statistical methods to inform decisions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients as their main point of contact.
- Coordinate specialist sub-consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
- Prepare quotes and tender proposals, demonstrating your expertise across various sectors.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, helping them grow in their roles.
What We’re Looking For:
- A relevant degree and CIEEM membership.
- At least 3 years of experience in consultancy, with a strong understanding of the legislation and best practices that guide our work.
- A Natural England Level 2 Class Licence for bats.
- Hands-on experience preparing EPS Licence applications.
- In-depth knowledge of all UK bat species and the ability to identify them in the field.
- Experience with the latest bat survey techniques and tools, including infra-red videography.
- Comfort and competence in independently carrying out a full range of bat surveys.
- A meticulous eye for detail and a passion for quality work.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience working under bat EPS Licences, including on-site supervision and roof strip work.
- Bat handling expertise.
- Qualifications in tree climbing and aerial rescue for aerial bat tree inspections.
