Overview

Urban Green is looking for a highly motivated Principal Ecologist with a minimum of 5 years’ experience to join our team in Manchester. Our team works for a wide range of clients within the residential, commercial, industrial, education and infrastructure sectors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, managing and delivering ecology projects across a range of challenging and exciting schemes to the highest quality, drawing upon field experience and knowledge of the planning system. A technical focus is required, with excellent delivery experience and strong project management and communication skills. An inspiring approach and the ability to lead and manage staff is required. You will be a key contributor in developing and supporting the growth of the team to achieve business plan targets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Leading a portfolio of interesting and complex ecological projects from initial client liaison through to completion
  • Mentoring and managing enthusiastic Ecologists by adopting a creative and an inspiring approach
  • Contributing to business development activities including client relationships and writing fee proposals to expand our current portfolio
  • Maintaining quality and health and safety standards
  • Demonstrating efficient and profitable delivery

Essential requirements

The successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Degree (or higher) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
  • Full Member of CIEEM (MCIEEM)
  • Minimum 5 years’ professional ecological experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy
  • Proven experience delivering complex ecological projects
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Commercial awareness and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a senior leadership team
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Initiative and drive, with a positive attitude and a strong desire to help grow a successful consultancy
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to deadlines
  • Holder of one or more protected species licences
  • Full UK driving licence
