Overview
Balfour Beatty are looking to appoint an Ecology area Lead to manage the ecological deliverables for one section of the LTC scheme to programme, budget and quality standard.
This includes delivery and management of site clearance in line with protected species licences and site guidance, on-site inspections and watching briefs, guiding programme and on-site measures required from the works information, and ensuring legal requirements and company standards are met.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Balfour Beatty Natural Environment Manager and project leads, the Ecology Area Lead will perform the following key activities:
- Lead on delivery of project ecological requirements in their area
- Develop ecological constraints plans and implement management plans
- Build and maintain relationships with design teams and internal teams
- Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation and coach construction teams in applying controls and mitigations in pragmatic, cost-effective ways
- Lead investigations and report on ecological incidents
- Provide pragmatic advice and site support to operational teams on ecological requirements
Who we’re looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
- Excellent understanding of ecological legalisation for development
- Good level of commercial awareness
- Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel
- Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
- Good understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment
- Literate in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Experience of working on large scale infrastructure construction projects
- Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject
- At least one protected species survey licence, preferably hazel dormouse or bat level 1 or 2
- Full CIEEM Membership
