Overview

The successful candidate will work alongside other ecologists, environmentalists, geoscientists, nuclear waste managers, geochemists, and safety case consultants to deliver ecological based appraisals as standalone deliverables or integration into wider site development and planning support work.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to environmental impact assessments and development consent order projects.
  • Lead on site visits, ecological surveys, marine ecology and meet client project managers.
  • Lead in the production of screening and scoping reports to support planning applications.
  • Utilise database toolkits with a GIS front end for projects for the development of digital EIA. These datasets are based on COPERNICUS, CEFAS, MMO, MAGIC, and SDG.
  • Develop a reputation within the sector by developing innovative methods of impact assessment for terrestrial, marine, coastal, and ecological impacts.
  • Develop best available techniques for environmental assessments that consider climate resilience, emissions, noise, biodiversity, water discharges, and heritage.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in leading or significantly contributing to the preparation of ecological surveys, HRA, and environmental impact assessments for new developments and operational permitting applications.
  • Qualification background in ecology, zoology, botany, marine sciences or equivalent.
  • Chartered ecologist, environmentalist, or scientist.
  • We are also willing to consider ecologists who are recent postgraduates.

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of any one of these: air quality management, noise abatement policy and legislation, or dispersion modelling methodologies for terrestrial and/or marine environments.
  • Licensed bat ecologist with experience of leading bat surveys, including preliminary roost assessments and dusk/dawn surveys, in-line with current UK best practice and legislation.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle challenges.
  • Willingness to travel on business as required, including visits to overseas sites.
