Overview

Carmarthenshire County Council is leading the response to one of the most pressing environmental challenges facing Wales—nutrient pollution and its impact on communities and protected rivers and marine environments. We are seeking a Nutrient Ecology Officer to play a vital role in delivering solutions that protect nature while supporting the delivery of sustainable development.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ecologist or environmental specialist to apply their expertise at scale, influencing real‑world outcomes across protected catchments.

As Nutrient Ecology Officer, you will provide specialist expertise to support the Council’s nutrient management and mitigation programme. Working closely with the Nutrient Management and Trading Lead and a wide range of internal and external partners, you will help shape and deliver robust, evidence‑led solutions to nutrient neutrality challenges.

Your work will directly inform mitigation strategies, nutrient calculations, and the development of practical interventions that enable development to proceed in a way that is compliant with habitat regulations and protective of sensitive environments.

This role sits at the heart of a high‑profile, grant‑funded programme responding to NRW condition assessments for Marine and Riverine Special Areas of Conservation, with influence extending well beyond Carmarthenshire.

Welsh language level – verbal: Level 2 – You will need a basic level of conversational Welsh. Reasonable support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.
