Torc Ecology is an established ecological consultancy based in North Norfolk that is seeking to expand its operations. A small but growing organisation they are looking to recruit a progressive Principal Ecologist to help them move the business forward and build a dynamic team.

The Directors have built a solid foundation for the business by providing a quality service that enables clients to maximise ecological compliance and minimise project delays. Torc believe that quality of service is a key driver in the ecology market place. Due to their extensive experience and contacts Torc are able to call on resources to undertake a variety of ecological assessments required for a wide range of projects from large scale housing developments to habitat creation projects.

The business is currently development lead and seeks to build its profile within this sector.  The Directors work closely with business coaches/consultants and are also keen to explore opportunities in congruent sectors. Although East Anglian based Torc staff work throughout the UK providing services to our regular clients, where needed.

The Role:-

The company currently operates from an office a stone’s throw from the picturesque North Norfolk Coast with its many bird reserves and sandy beaches.  Due to growth plans we require an office based Principal Ecologist to deliver projects and help progress the business expansion plans.

The successful candidate should be a highly motivated and proficient Principal Ecologist with experience in managing and delivering large and small scale projects; including supporting and mentoring junior staff as well as having a background in client management and business development.  You will have the exciting challenge of working with the Directors to progress the business and ultimately share in its success.

Key job responsibilities:-

·       Client and team management;

·       Business development;

·       Preparation of tenders and budget management;

·       Preparation and design of ecological assessments;

·       Work flow and project management e.g. prioritisees the teams workload while balancing client expectations, available resources and project deadlines,   within budget;

·       Leading and mentoring in-house ecologists, including directly overseeing works on a wide variety of projects on a day-to-day basis;

·       Technical guidance and review throughout all stages of ecological projects;

·       Undertake and assist field survey, site meetings and public enquiries, where required.

Essential:-

·       Full MCIEEM;

·       Full UK drivers licence;

·       Proven ability to perform primary job responsibilities listed above;

·       Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice;

·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

·       Excellent report writing skills with proven experience of completing EcIA in line with current CIEEM guidelines;

·       Thorough understanding of wildlife/biodiversity legislation applicable in the UK;

·       Thorough understanding of the planning process, EIA and HRA;

·       Proven experience of conducting ecological surveys, including Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys and designing appropriate mitigation strategies;

·       High level of personal responsibility.

·       Attention to detail is essential.

·       Good ICT skills including MS Word and Excel.

Desirable:-

·       A protected species licence other than bats or GCN;

·       An ecological specialism other than bats or GCN;

·       Marketing experience;

·       Experience of completing HRA;

·       Experience in using project management and/or CRM software;

·       Ability to bring new clients on board;

·       Experience or working in congruent sectors.
