Overview

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic, experienced and confident ecologist to join our team.  As a bat specialist at Thomson Ecology, you will gain experience in all aspects of our projects and day to day running of a thriving independent ecological consultancy.  For this vacancy we are primarily looking for an experienced bat worker who is able to demonstrate passion and creativity for their work.

Depending on experience we could offer you a position at Ecologist, Senior Ecological or Principal Ecological Consultant level with scope for working towards your level 3 licence (if not already held) as well as supporting your continued professional development.

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • A minimum of a Level 2 Natural England bat licence, held for at least 3 years or alongside being a named ecologist on at least one EPSL for development
  • Hands on experience in preparing and implementing mitigation strategies and development licences
  • Be experienced in leading bat surveys, proficient in bat sound analysis and software and the use of static monitoring devices
  • At least Associate membership of CIEEM
  • Proficient in client and project management with a flexible, can-do work attitude
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively to clients both verbally and in writing to a very high standard.

Ideally you will also:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
  • An MSc in ecology or closely related subject
  • Hold or be eligible to hold a Natural Resources Wales Bat licence (ideally with handling endorsement) and/or Scottish Natural Heritage bat licence
  • Be experienced in acting as the named ecologist on European Protected Species development licences.

If short-listed, candidates will be expected to demonstrate their technical identification and report writing skills.

This is a permanent position based in our modern offices in the picturesque Surrey Research Park.  The successful candidate will live within commuting distance of Guildford or be prepared to relocate.
