Overview

The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames. An opportunity has arisen for a Technical Adviser – Ecology to join the Environment Team within the Planning and Environment department, to lead on the provision of ecological information and minimise the impact on the environment of the tidal Thames, the PLA’s estate and operations.

The postholder will lead the delivery and technical contribution to the consideration of Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulation Assessments, and lead on the relevant goals, initiatives and improvements set out in the Thames Vision relating to biodiversity, including invasive species.

The successful candidate will:

Be educated to degree level with a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as Ecology or Earth Sciences. Holding a membership of an institution recognised by the Society of Environment, ideally Institute of Ecology & Environment Management (CIEEM or Institute of Environmental Science (CIES).
Have at least 3 years’ experience in evaluating the technical and scientific impacts on biodiversity and consenting applications.
Possess demonstratable skills in survey and sampling, biological recording, data management and familiarity with GIS tools. Thorough understanding of statistical analysis, data management and modelling of large and complex environmental data sets
Have broad experience of preparing and assessing with environmental assessments under Habitat Regulation Assessment, Water Framework Directive & Environmental Impact Assessment and the processes of demonstrating compliance.
Have experience of technical project management to lead on projects provided in part by external experts in support of relevant projects or for application to regulators.
