To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Senior or Principal Ecologist in our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.

This is a part-time opportunity with various working-patterns being considered.

We are part of Jacobs’ approximately 180-strong UK ecology team, one of the UK’s largest, most dynamic and respected ecology teams. The team delivers surveys, impact assessments and Habitats Regulations Appraisals for high profile infrastructure projects.

Based in a location that gives you ready access to the Scottish outdoors, this is an excellent opportunity to develop experience in a growing team, working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in Scottish history. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Scottish & UK ecology teams in project delivery
  • Planning, resourcing and leading ecological field surveys
  • Producing quality assured ecology deliverables such as EcIAs, Species Protection Plans, Preliminary Ecological Appraisal Reports
  • Mentoring less experienced staff
  • Supporting business development activities

Qualifications

Essential:

  • An honours degree in ecology or closely related field
  • Surveying and working experience in the UK regulatory framework including protected species – licensing; and Extended Phase 1 habitat survey
  • Full member of CIEEM with CEnv/CEcol or eligibility for full membership/chartership
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience of either EcIA or producing EPS license applications
  • Capable of organising and developing your work with minimal supervision
  • Full current UK driving license

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree
  • An ecological specialism
  • Working knowledge of the Habitats Directive 1992 (as amended)
  • Experience of working closely with other environmental specialists
  • Project and/or budget management
  • ECoW experience
  • Protected species license(s).
  • GIS skills
  • A CSCS card
