Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a young, dynamic and fun team in a rapidly growing company, based at one of our beautiful offices in Bath and Stroud.

The position primarily involves the management of ecology projects, production and review of technical reports, and liaising with our clients and subcontractors. The job will be mainly office based, but with regular fieldwork opportunities.

The Senior Ecologist will be responsible for:

  • Managing ecological consultancy projects
  • Communicating with clients
  • Preparing technical documents, for example PEA reports and EPS licence applications
  • Assuring the quality of fieldwork, data and reports produced by our ecologists
  • Leading ecological field surveys
  • Contributing to fee proposals
  • Training and mentoring junior ecologists

The successful candidate will:

  • Have over 5 years of experience in ecological consultancy
  • Have proven experience in undertaking Phase 1 surveys
  • Have proven experience in ecological survey work across a range of habitats and taxa
  • Have proven experience in project management
  • Have excellent report writing skills
  • Have a good understanding of clients’ needs
  • Be a good communicator and have a strong team ethic.
  • Be a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management
  • Be competent in common software packages such as MS Office, QGIS or similar
  • Be conscientious, and have an eye for detail
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Have proven experience in botanical surveys
  • Have held an EPS mitigation licence
  • Hold CSCS card, and have proven experience of construction site working
  • Have experience of training, mentoring and managing junior staff
  • Be a Chartered Ecologist
  • Be commercially aware and a have a passion to help grow our company
  • Be “accomplished” level in at least one taxa according to CIEEM Competency Framework

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum

Contract type: Permanent, full time. (Part time appointments/job shares would be considered.)
