Purpose:

Cascade has a strong project portfolio and we are looking for an experienced hydro-ecologist to join our team in Manchester. We are recruiting this role at either Prinicpal or Senior Consultant level, depending on the skillset and expereince of the individual. You will be involved in providing technical support on a variety of water management projects, including cutting edge R&D studies across a wide range of clients. You will be expected to manage some of your own projects as well as contribute as part of a wider team.

 

Key accountabilities:

Provide high level advice and technical input into hydro-ecological investigations.
Coordination, data presentation and report writing
Undertake, produce and technically review environmental assessments of various activities.
Lead small or less complex bids, including development of bid storyboard, methodology and presentation at interview. Developing follow-on work and new opportunities as they arise from existing work.
Project manage and coordinate studies.
Manage the technical work of more junior staff and sub-consultants, guided and supported by our technical leads.
Mentor more junior colleagues in all aspects of consultancy and liaise with others up to Director Level.
Key competencies and experience:

A sound understanding of habitat/ ecosystem physical environment pressures and ecological receptors requirements.
A degree in a relevant subject, such as Physical Sciences, Ecology or Biology and ideally a postgraduate degree.
Experience of taking the lead technically on complex hydro-ecological assessment such as used in Sustainability Reductions investigations; Water Framework Directive heavily modified waterbody mitigation assessments; appropriate assessments for HRA; significant infrastructure EIA, Flood Defence Consent and Marine Licensing
Full membership of CIWEM or similar professional body
Experience of planning and conducting field surveys, such as River Habitat Survey, River corridor Survey, hydraulic cross-section surveys, continuous water quality monitoring programmes and providing mitigation recommendations
A good understanding of the planning process, EIA and WFD compliance assessments
Experience of stakeholder communications and management.
Experience in the preparation of proposals and tenders
Experience of water resource management and drought planning would also be an advantage
Skills and behaviours:

Excellent team working skills together with strong communication skills and a close attention to detail
Enthusiastic and self-motivated to thrive in this busy and demanding environment.
Excellent report writing skills, including survey reports, Environmental Statement chapters, bid-writing skills and ability to give presentations at all levels.
Good IT skills in commonly used software, e.g. Microsoft Office, internet, email, GIS.
