Overview

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Biodiversity Consultant within the IPG.  The role will be full time, 40 hours per week. The preferred location for the role is in either Helsby (Cheshire) or Bristol, however working from another location would be considered, depending on the strength of the candidate’s application. Travel to and collaboration with other RSK offices and staff working globally will be required.

Key responsibilities will include:

Specifically, leading on the biodiversity elements of screening, scoping and delivery of international projects including feasibility studies, scoping reports, environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs), critical habitat assessments, biodiversity action plans, biodiversity offset strategies (No Net Loss/Net Gain), monitoring programs, etc
Implementing corporate biodiversity programmes, including issues such as design and field-testing of baseline survey methods, biodiversity metrics, impact assessment protocols, mitigation programmes and biodiversity offsets, in collaboration with our ecological specialists
Contribute to the planning and coordination of biodiversity components of projects and tenders for the IPG team
Project management of IPG biodiversity projects as required
Providing business development support to the Biodiversity Team Leader including preparation of marketing materials, meetings with existing and potential new clients, participation in relevant industry events, etc
Person specification:

Tertiary level qualification (minimum BSc degree) in a relevant discipline
Minimum 10 years’ experience working on biodiversity aspects of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects
Management of ecological specialists including having provided support on ecological survey design in accordance with regulatory and lender requirements
Experience on oil and gas pipeline projects is ideal but not essential
Specialist skills in a particular ecological field (e.g. botany, herptiles, small mammals, etc.) would be particularly advantageous
Familiarity and experience with relevant international Lender standards (including Equator Principles, International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standard 6, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s Performance Requirement 6 and the European Investment Bank’s Environmental and Social Practices Handbook) would also be advantageous
Good personal skills, covering written and oral communications (in English), planning and coordination. Ability to read, write and converse professionally in a second language would be advantageous
Team player, with the ability to work comfortably within multi-cultural teams in different environments and countries
Positive and enthusiastic self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously make leadership decisions when necessary within pressing situations
