Overview

The special qualities of the Howardian Hills led to them being designated as a nationally important Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987. The AONB has a diverse and complex landscape of rolling farmland, wooded hills and historic parklands. Lying close to the historic City of York and the North York Moors National Park, it is a superb place to live and work.

We are seeking either one or two passionate and motivated individual(s) to provide part-time and fixed term resources to the AONB Unit. With a background in countryside management or environmental conservation, you will take responsibility for implementing projects in the AONB. Key tasks for both posts will be organising and administering land management and community projects, either via grant aid or direct works, within the context of the AONB Management Plan and Annual Action Programme.

We are looking for somebody who is effective at achieving action on the ground and who can handle a varied and demanding workload. You will have knowledge of land management, environment and conservation techniques and/or heritage, together with proven experience in countryside management, environmental conservation or natural and built heritage. This will include a proven track record of working successfully with land managers, local communities, young people and volunteers on practical programmes of work and on promotional activity. You will need to be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of land management and conservation techniques.

Secondments from partner organisations (at the advertised salary rate) will be considered.

If you have any specific queries about the posts, please contact Paul Jackson (AONB Manager) or Liz Bassindale (AONB Officer) on 0845 034 9495 or 01609 536778.

Two Fixed Term Contracts available:

1. Until 31st March 2017
2. 1st October 2016 to 31st March 2017
