Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced and qualified individual to join our Natural Environment Team to principally provide ecological advice for planning matters.

We are looking for a Natural Environment Officer to help meet the challenge around delivering ecological advice related to planning applications and development and supporting colleagues delivering high quality parks and open spaces throughout North Somerset.

You will need to demonstrate an excellent understanding of ecological planning issues as well as having knowledge of countryside sites management, wildlife management, biodiversity and working with volunteers and how this all contributes to the green infrastructure.

Your work will include compiling reports, ecological planning advice, work specifications and plans, as well as the supervision of external contractors.

You will have experience in a similar role, preferably within a local authority, or private sector ecological or planning consultants and hold a relevant qualification to level 4 or above.

You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be computer literate. You may be required to work outside of normal office hours to deal with emergencies and community events.

We welcome applications from all sections of our community regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation. North Somerset Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
