The Role

The Planning & Environment department within Natural Power is made up of a diverse range of ecologists, hydrologists and planners with considerable technical experience and expertise from having worked on renewable projects for over twelve years. We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Ecologist to lead on environmental projects and support and develop the ecology team.  This role can be based at any of our UK locations.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

Business development and tendering for new work;
Manage projects, including timescales and finance;
Provide advice on ecological issues in relation to renewable projects, during all project phases (consenting, construction, post-construction, and decommissioning);
Prepare and provide written technical reports;
Prepare and provide scoping reports and EIA chapters;
Compile Information for Habitat Regulations Assessment;
Reviewing/authorising reports produced by other team members;
Provide input into survey recommendations, design and data analysis;
Liaise with clients, landowners and statutory consultees throughout projects; and
Line management and support of ecology team
Qualifications:
Essential:

Degree qualified to BSc level or equivalent in a biological, environmental or ecological discipline.  Further to academic qualifications, it is essential that you have demonstrable experience in a similar role, fulfilling comparable duties and responsibilities as discussed above.
Strong ornithology, bat and vegetation/habitat skills, specifically tailored for the renewable industry.
Previous experience of undertaking terrestrial ecological field surveys such as otter, badger surveys and be aware of how construction can impact upon these species and what legislation and guidance is applicable.
Previous experience of project and budget management of multiple projects.
Excellent interpersonal skills being able to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders at all levels involved in projects.
Exceptional communication skills being able to convey clear and concise information in both written and verbal format to colleagues, clients and third parties.
Capable of producing technical reports and as a result, you will be a proficient user of Microsoft Office.
Work may require anti-social hours and travelling to survey sites and meetings across the UK. Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to be self-motivated, flexible with your time and standard duties.  A full drivers’ licence is essential.
Desirable:

Degree qualified to MSc, PhD level or equivalent in a biological, environmental or ecological discipline.
Previous experience of undertaking the ECoW role, be familiar with the requirements of the role during the construction phase of a renewables development, specifically onshore wind, and to hold a Safe Pass and / or Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
Previous business development experience.
Exposure to Document Management Systems and/or Enterprise Resource Planning software would be advantageous
