Overview

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated ecologist to join Devon County Council’s multi-disciplinary Environment Group based in Exeter.  The Group covers ecology, climate emergency, landscape, flood management, historic environment, Devon Maritime Forum, two AONBs and the North Devon Biosphere Reserve Partnership.

This is a great opportunity to be directly involved in working with local and national partners on a wide range of exciting wildlife initiatives.  The post will suit someone with existing experience of infrastructure projects (surveys, impact assessment and mitigation) as well as knowledge and experience of broader nature conservation issues.   The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, thrive on variety, enjoy networking and be able to work flexibly as priorities change.

The main areas of work will include:

  • Delivering net gain through the provision of ecological advice to Devon Local Planning Authorities and developers (including Devon County Council infrastructure projects) with respect to both development management and strategic planning.
  • Helping to develop and implement wildlife and planning guidance e.g. HRA guidance for bats.
  • Providing ecological advice for the DCC Estate e.g. road verges, County Farms.
  • Helping to develop and co-ordinate the Devon Local Nature Partnership (www.naturaldevon.org.uk).Areas of work include the Devon Nature Recovery Network, Climate Emergency, Local Nature Recovery Strategy, Naturally Healthy, Natural Capital, Dark Skies, Special Species, Outdoor Learning, Devon Invasive Species Initiative etc.

This is a permanent full-time position.
