Overview

Provision of environmental technical support services to assist with delivery of the A5 Western Transport Corridor, Northern Ireland. Provision of other environmental and ecological consultancy services to clients inside and outside Mouchel.

1.Lead, manage, undertake, and assist the Technical Manager in delivering environmental services on A5 WTC as necessary, as required and dictated by project timescales
2.Provide ecological consultancy services to clients, including specialist ecological skills. The successful candidate is likely to hold or have held protected species licences.
3.Develop ecological knowledge and survey skills and demonstrate continual professional development, e.g. in identifying habitats and species found within the UK, learning standard survey methodologies and developing the ability to think critically about ecological information/data
4.Lead, supervise, undertake, and assist members of the ecology team with, mitigation work on project sites as required and dictated by project timescales
5.Communicate findings of surveys and events on project sites clearly and concisely to clients and co-workers both verbally and through written documents.
6.Demonstrate a professional and pragmatic attitude towards ecological issues and respect the chain of responsibility by consulting with, and if necessary, referring decision making to more senior members of the ecology team in order to best represent the needs of clients.
7.Maintain excellent time keeping and organisation, and be readily contactable by senior members of staff through email and telephone
8.Take responsibility for health and safety in all aspects of work, completing relevant training, qualifications and risk assessments as dictated by Mouchel procedures and those of clients
9.Comply with Mouchel’s policies and procedures, including weekly completion of a timesheet
10.Work may require travel in the UK or abroad.
11.Other duties that may be required at the employers request.
About You
Undergraduate degree in Environmental Sciences, Ecology or related environmental subject
Full Member of CIEEM or IEMA
Chartered Scientist, Environmentalist or Ecologist
Full clean driving licence

Experience/knowledge –

Excellent technical knowledge of ecological principles and current/historical nature conservation issues
Specialist skills in one or more aspects of ecological consultancy, for example, holding protected species licence(s)
Knowledge of British wildlife, the conservation issues it faces, and how it is protected by both planning policy and law
Experience of providing ecological consultancy advice in the context of planning and development
Commercial awareness, including an understanding of contractual issues and experience of budget management and preparation of fee estimates.
Experience of managing teams of field workers and mentoring junior staff.
Excellent report-writing and verbal skills.
